Transforming the health of each newborn, child, adult and elder through exceptional, gentle, drug free Chiropractic Care.

Fertility
Often fertility challenges are associated with less than optimal nervous system function. Chiropractors are experts in reducing nervous system interference by keeping the spine properly aligned, and allowing clear messages to travel to and from the brain and throughout the body, including the reproductive system. Chiropractic care can be used in conjunction with other approaches to enhance fertility and resolve infertility challenges as well as greatly improve the chances of successful medical procedures such as IVF.

Pregnancy
As a woman's pregnancy progresses, her center of gravity shifts outward and her posture compensations. Her ligaments become more lax (which is necessary for birthing) but these changes can add instability in all of her joints, including her spine and pelvis. Chiropractic care ensures that the main communication highway between brain and body is clear from any obstruction, tension or distortion which allows for ease during pregnancy as well as during labour. When all body systems are clearly connected they can work together in synchrony and balance.

Some of the other benefits of care during pregnancy include:

Maintaining a healthier pregnancy
Controlling symptoms of nausea
Relieving back, pelvic, pubic bone, neck or joint pain (84% of women found beneficial)
Easier labour experience
Shorter labour times (up to 40%)
More balanced posture
Reduction in the need for analgesics (50% reduction)
Providing an environment conducive to a head down, ideal position for the baby

Breech & Webster's Technique
If your baby is breech, there is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment called The Webster's Technique which enables chiropractors to establish balance in a pregnant woman’s pelvis and reduce stress in her uterus and supporting ligaments. This balanced state has been clinically shown to allow babies who were breech to turn into a head down position. This Webster Technique has been shown to be 82% effective.

Birth
Research has shown that Chiropractic care during pregnancy can reduce labour time (by 25% first time moms- by 40% second birth) and result in a more comfortable birth experience. Establishing pelvic balance and alignment in pregnancy through chiropractic care also helps birth in many ways including:

Aligning the pelvis to allow an optimal amount of space available for the baby to get into an optimal position.
Allowing the master communication nervous system to speak clearly to the uterus and cervix, allowing for more effective birth sensations and faster, easier births.

Infants and Children
In infants, the nervous system controls growth and development. Because infancy is the time of greatest brain and proprioceptive development, this is the optimal time to take care of the nervous system.

When adjusting a newborn to eliminate any disturbances, a skilled chiropractor will only use pressure equal to that which you would be comfortable using while pressing on your eye. The child is adjusted by hand and/or an adjustive device while either lying on a pillow or on his/her parent. It is simple, safe and effective – and is often done while sleeping – it is that gentle!.

Other children's conditions that improve through chiropractic include:

Constipation
Ear infections
Colic
Asthma
Allergies
Headaches
Bed wetting

Families
The WOMB provides chiropractic care for families at all ages and stages. One of the best things about receiving chiropractic adjustments is that they are a completely drug-free path to healing the body naturally. Chiropractic benefits include helping to naturally improve problems such as:

Back pain
Headaches
Bowel regularity
Improved mental clarity
Ear infections
Neck pain
Arthritis and joint pain
Scoliosis
Asthma
Blood pressure
Organ function
Surgery prevention
Immune system deficiencies

Pre-Conception and Fertility
Preconception: Naturopathic medicine helps families establish optimal health prior to conception to ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby. Whether you are planning to conceive naturally or are using assisted reproductive technologies, naturopathic care can improve rates of a healthy full term pregnancy by balancing hormones, creating an optimal environment for pregnancy, and improving male factor fertility.

Tracking Fertility: Our Naturopathic team teaches all of our patients how to properly track and understand their fertility signs. Each patient receives a customized plan to address their barriers to healthy conception including stress management, detoxification, dietary modifications and herbal and supplemental therapies to balance hormones and improve fertility. Acupuncture is another valuable tool that improves conception rates by up to 65%.

Common fertility conditions treated: natural family planning, PCOS, IVF/IUI support, egg quality, endometriosis, fibroids, decreased sperm parameters (motility, count and morphology), luteal phase defects, thin lining, recurrent miscarriage, autoimmune conditions and more.

Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum
Healthy Pregnancy: Naturopathic medicine helps women nourish a healthy pregnancy and baby. Using gentle and safe therapies, common concerns such as heartburn, nausea, leg cramps and fatigue can be effectively managed. With healthy diet and lifestyle guidance, women can reduce the likelihood of complications such as excess weight gain, gestational diabetes, Group B Strep, high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia. Clients also learn which supplements are most effective and what steps to take to reduce rates of familial diseases, autism, allergies and eczema in their newborns.

Birth: Our Naturopathy team help families navigate through decision-making regarding labour, and birth, support clients with strategies such as acupuncture for optimal baby positioning and to bring on labour without induction, and reduce the rate of medical interventions including forceps, vacuum and Cesarean birth.

Postpartum: In the postpartum period, Naturopathic medicine is a powerful tool to speed recovery from Cesarean or vaginal birth and help new families thrive. Naturopathy can assist with increasing energy levels, improving milk supply, feelings of being supported and reduce post-partum depression and anxiety.

Infants and Children
By taking a preventative, wellness-based approach to your child’s care, naturopathy helps families get started on the right foot. Our team conducts growth and development check-ups, focusing on education around timely issues and milestones such as food introduction, and building the immune system for daycare and school. Naturopathic medicine also offers effective strategies to treat common childhood concerns including gas and colic, digestive upset, ear infections, eczema, teething, ADHD, and more.

Family Medicine
Naturopathic care is designed to help each member of your family feel optimally well. Our team seeks to identify and treat the root cause of illness and look at the body as a whole system functioning together, rather than a set of symptoms. By using the body’s own ability to heal and effective, natural therapies, naturopathic medicine can help you feel optimal today and prevent disease tomorrow.

Treatment options include: clinical nutrition, lifestyle counseling, Traditional Chinese Medicine & acupuncture, B12 injections, herbal medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy and physical medicine. Acupuncture
The WOMB’s naturopathic medicine team offers acupuncture treatments as part of their comprehensive approach to health care.

Acupuncture is a gentle and effective therapy to support health and balance. It can be used for a variety of concerns such as pain, sleep, stress, anxiety, digestive concerns, fertility, pregnancy, labour induction and more. Generally quite painless and relaxing, small needles are inserted along energy meridians to stimulate balance and improve function.

For fertility, acupuncture can regulate the menstrual cycle, thicken the uterine lining and support implantation. For those going through assisted reproductive therapies such as IUI or IVF, it has been proven to increase success rates and pregnancy rates.

For pregnancy, many common concerns such as nausea, sciatic or pelvic pain, swelling, and insomnia can be alleviated with a few acupuncture sessions. It is also a great option in the final weeks of pregnancy to prepare the body for labour to reduce the need for medical induction or interventions such as epidural, forceps, vaccum or emergency Caesarean births. See Dr. Amy's blog here.

Dr. Amy in Milton also offers anti-aging facial rejuvenation acupuncture therapy. This is designed to protect the skin, lift and reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and improve overall skin hydration and texture.

Our Milton location currently offers community acupuncture sessions, which is offered to existing naturopathy patients only. Treatments are done in a relaxing group setting at a reduced rate.

Note for Insurance purposes: acupuncture services are billed under naturopathic medicine.

Pelvic girdle pain is very common during pregnancy and is treated by the Pelvic Health Physiotherapists at The WOMB using advanced training in obstetrical care.

FERTILITY: The combined care of fertility specialists and physiotherapists has led to increasingly successful outcomes. The WOMB’s pelvic health physiotherapists use a combination of evidence-based manual therapies, neuro-modulation techniques and exercise prescription to optimize your pelvic region’s health so that your body is more receptive to conception.

PREGNANCY + BIRTH: Birthing people who see a WOMB Physiotherapist learn about effective birthing and "pushing" techniques and positions that prepare them for an easier birthing stage and reduce the risk of tearing. Research studies confirm that women who learn how to properly train their pelvic floors during pregnancy have shorter less painful labours, less soft tissue damage and faster recoveries!

POSTPARTUM: Through specialization in pelvic floor rehabilitation, The WOMB’s pelvic health physiotherapists ensure that any bladder issues (“leaking with laughing”), connective tissue separation of your abdomen (“mummy tummy” or diastasis recti) and/or any lingering causes of pelvic or back pain, are all corrected for optimal physical function.

LIFE FUNCTION: Changes due to fluctuations in hormones, bladder health, uterine and anal prolapse, leaking and inablilty to hold your bladder. Applying their expertise in urogynecology, The WOMB’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapists can assist you in restoring your bladder function and optimizing overall mobility.

PAEDIATRICS: Pelvic floor dysfunction is very common in children. Most paediatric primary care visits are for incontinence, bedwetting, and constipation. Paediatric pelvic floor dysfunction refers to a wide range of issues that occur when the pelvic floor muscles are weak, in spasm or too tight. The WOMB’s physiotherapists use a holistic approach that includes education and counselling related to needed lifestyle or behaviour changes, and exercise/movement prescription. In addition, physiotherapists work closely with other members of The WOMB team and extend to colleagues in the department of paediatrics at McMaster University to address all of the related factors that underlie pelvic floor dysfunction.

She has been in private practice for close to 20 years as a certified Birth & Postpartum Doula and specializes in supporting birthing families who have experienced trauma in their previous birth journeys and/or VBAC/HBACs.

Her experience as a doula has allowed her to understand birth trauma as it unfolds in real time, as well as to witness the reconfiguring of “Mom Parts” in the early postpartum period. The benefits of having intimately supported so many families over the years has allowed her to witness the struggles (and celebrations!) firsthand.

Karen facilitates an Emerging Mothers group that provides unbiased, non-judgmental, and open-ended support for new and emerging parents alongside parents with more than one child. In a group setting, hot button topics such as sleep, feeding, identity, the complexities of relationship changes with partners, one’s own parents, and close friends take centre stage. Karen provides tools, dialogue, discussion, and space for honest conversations about perinatal mental health struggles and celebrations.

She is also the creator and facilitator of The McWilliam Method childbirth preparation and Life With Baby parenting preparation classes, is a certified prenatal & postnatal yoga instructor, lactation educator, and sleep educator.

Karen is passionate about helping families navigate the often surprising and turbulent waters of new parenthood. As a complex trauma survivor, Karen suffered from postpartum depression herself with both her children and strives to help parents understand and integrate the complexities of the early parenting journey.

When not supporting families or attending births, Karen can be found with her two teenage children, her husband, two dogs, and two cats. She enjoys reading books in a hammock, paddling on her paddle board, learning about video games with her son and criminology with her daughter.

Becky is a twice Certified Infant Sleep Specialist, Postpartum Doula, and mom of two. Her introduction to the world of infant and child sleep began during her first pregnancy, when she attended a prenatal sleep education class. It was eye opening to gain knowledge and insight on normal infant sleep behaviours and the science behind it, beyond the anecdotal stories and general sleep assumptions in our society.

Parenting a very challenging sleeper fueled her passion to help other families navigate the roller coaster of infant and child sleep. Parents so often question if their baby’s behaviour is normal, and how to sort through the conflicting information out there. She provides parents with the knowledge and reassurance around what is normal, tools to implement during challenging times, and strategies for striking a balance between the fundamental needs of baby and the equally as important well being of the parents.

Becky’s approach is supportive of all types of feeding, co-sleeping, bed sharing and nurturing a healthy and secure attachment. Her sleep calls focus on educating parents in what is developmentally normal and expected for each stage of sleep through the first year and beyond. Each child is unique and every family is different, so all sleep support is customized, working together with parents to create a strategy that works best for them and aligns with their values. Rest assured that YOU are doing an amazing job as a parent, and allow Becky to guide you through the ups and downs of sleep!

Dr. Jessica Santos is a family chiropractor, whose passion lies in working with aspiring, expecting or postnatal mamas, as well as ALL the babes she can possibly handle! While she loves to serve practice members of all ages, she has always held a special love for working with families through the common challenges of pregnancy, parenthood, infancy & childhood – and encouraging families to be able to optimize their life experiences and reach their true potential through chiropractic care. It is her experience as an ‘almost lifetime’ chiropractic patient being adjusted from the age of 3, that inspired her to become a Chiropractor herself.

After completing undergraduate work in Psychology & Kinesiology at both Ryerson & York Universities respectively, she completed her post-graduate degree as a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) in 2017 from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). She has completed multiple additional qualification courses through the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association), most notably being her Webster Certification designed to support optimal neurological function and structural alignment throughout mama’s pregnancy, and to encourage baby’s innate impulse and ability to get into an ideal position for birth. She is also certified, and has extensive experience working with the PIPS (Pediatric Intraoral Palate Specific) technique and associated bodywork, which is intended to identify and treat suspected or confirmed intraoral dysfunction related to tethered oral tissues (such as tongue tie and lip tie), TMJD, and poor tongue function (both pre and post revision). Her work with infants has allowed her to gain a wide-ranging familiarity working with infants with both common and uncommon infancy and childhood complaints, ranging from colic, reflux and torticollis – to retained primitive reflexes, cerebral palsy, and neurodivergent conditions. Most recently, Dr. Jess has become a Certified Pre and Post Natal Coach (CPPC), allowing her to foster another passion of raising the standard of care for mamas after birth (and beyond) by showing them how to properly regain strength and rebuild their bodies safely and effectively after carrying, birthing and raising their minis.

Dr. Jess has two little girls of her own, which have inspired her to become passionate about researching, developing, and advocating for true informed choice and freedom through pregnancy, birthing, and child-raising experiences. She strongly attributes her incredible experience throughout pregnancy and birth, as well as her continued family wellness, to routine chiropractic care. She prioritizes continued education to grow her knowledge base, to be able to educate her practice members and her community about our body’s innate potential and emphasizes the importance of collaborative care to better serve the families of her community.

In her spare time, Dr. Jess loves spending quality time with her family and friends, as well as travelling, swimming, paddleboarding, & learning about anything related to life span nutrition, fostering immune function, or natural and chemical-free parenting. She is an ocean lover, is obsessed with pasta, loves playing and watching multiple sports, and loves to meet new people – so don’t hesitate to come and say hi!
