Faiza Ali
(She/Her/Hers)
The development of humans from birth, to childhood, to adolescence is an ever-changing journey. While these years can be filled with play, laughter and learning, life can throw curveballs and create challenging circumstances which require developmentally appropriate explanation, support and empowerment.
That’s where I come in!
My name is Faiza and I am a certified child life specialist! What’s that you ask? Child life specialists are healthcare professionals who work with infants, children, teens and families in various capacities. Using a family-centered framework, we provide therapeutic play, procedural preparation, and education to reduce fear, anxiety and pain. In the hospital, I can be seen helping children cope with blood work and vaccines, explaining a new diagnosis, connecting siblings during hospitalization, and providing memory making activities during end-of life.
I completed my undergraduate program in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber. I also have a masters in Child Life and Paediatric Psychosocial Care from McMasterU. Since then, I got my certification, started working at Sick Kids and supported the Michael Garron Paediatric Vaccine clinic. When I’m not at work, you’ll find me and my toddler playing with pop-its, bubbles and chasing one another at the park!
My passion is to bring child life into the community to provide your child with a safe and empowering space. Child life at the WOMB can look like (but not limited to):
Preparing a sibling for a new baby in the house or in the NICU Providing support for needle fear and anxiety Supporting children through an upcoming procedure or experience (surgery, hospital admission, home birth) Developmentally appropriate explanation of new diagnosis’ Memory making and celebration of life activities Learning about attachment and strategies to promote healthy bonding End of life support Grief and loss activities for loved ones (including pets!)

Becky Soehner
(She/Her/Hers)
Becky is a twice Certified Infant Sleep Specialist, Postpartum Doula, and mom of two. Her introduction to the world of infant and child sleep began during her first pregnancy, when she attended a prenatal sleep education class. It was eye opening to gain knowledge and insight on normal infant sleep behaviours and the science behind it, beyond the anecdotal stories and general sleep assumptions in our society.
Parenting a very challenging sleeper fueled her passion to help other families navigate the roller coaster of infant and child sleep. Parents so often question if their baby’s behaviour is normal, and how to sort through the conflicting information out there. She provides parents with the knowledge and reassurance around what is normal, tools to implement during challenging times, and strategies for striking a balance between the fundamental needs of baby and the equally as important well being of the parents.
Becky’s approach is supportive of all types of feeding, co-sleeping, bed sharing and nurturing a healthy and secure attachment. Her sleep calls focus on educating parents in what is developmentally normal and expected for each stage of sleep through the first year and beyond. Each child is unique and every family is different, so all sleep support is customized, working together with parents to create a strategy that works best for them and aligns with their values. Rest assured that YOU are doing an amazing job as a parent, and allow Becky to guide you through the ups and downs of sleep!
